The Beauty of Edisto Island

Edisto Beach, SC
12x16" watercolor

OK - so this will be the last post of the highlights of my painting this summer. All the others are posted on my Flickr Photostream (click on the right to see them ifin ya want). This painting is obviously based on a photo. Originally miss Hannah is walking one of our dogs - who is omitted in this composition - which now I think makes this painting look odd (the way her wrist bends to hide her hand in forshortening - without the benefit of a dog somewhere in the image to let one know why it looks this way)...

I love the expression! I didn't notice what was wrong with the arm until you mentioned it. You can say she is just holding her stomach.

Gosh, Gary! I've been waiting a long time to see more of your fabulous art work! How amazing to find so many new pieces in one day of posting! I love each and every one of these and so wish someone could teach me to paint like you do! I do see what you mean about the dog walker's wrist, but I hadn't really thought it looked odd. I did wonder why she had her arm in front of her like that until you mentioned she was holding a leash. Danged dogs always trying to trip us up by crossing over in front of us! LOL Does Ken have an art blog too? I seem to remember that he paints as well? Ann and your daughter looks gorgeous sitting together and I so wish I could get such days as that one back with my own daughters.

I have missed seeing your work! I checked every day, just in case, until this week--because I've been doing tons of projects and haven't had time. But look what I got to come back to! These are beautiful! I noticed the arm, but I like it because it looks like she's hiding something from the viewer. I think it makes her seem more playful.

She looks great even with her arm at a weird angle. Hardly even notice it. Love the expression on her face!
