Corsica

Corsica
12x16" watercolor on 140lb. Kilamanjaro

So here is my contribution to Bill Guffey's Virtual Paintout this month. Corsica must be a beautiful place to live. For my search I stayed close to the coast - I think it being winter and all. We had another round of ice yesterday and it was so sad to see the same trees bowing down once again. Their spirits seemed so burdened that it really affected me on my way to work. But, that's why we do art I suppose, perhaps at times a form of escapism. I hear a lot of artists say that they do art because they have to. Maybe that is the only real reason to do so.

This is so beautiful, Gary. You just get those watercolors to do what they should do so magnificently. I really like the shade thrown by the tree too and can imagine walking out on that little quay...blues...greens...spring...sigh...

You've shown the real spirit of the place, Gary. I like the use of warm tones in the foreground receding to cool blues in the distance. It makes the house pop.

Aside from the more temperate climate, Corsica reminds me somewhat of Newfoundland. I think that living from the sea and coastal outlook does it. Your watercolour sums it up perfectly.

I still haven't had a chance to try my hand at Corsica but have a few views in mind.

Ice, snow, winter is hard on everyone. Art is an escapism its true and also something that you have little control over. You just do it because there is no other way.

Ooo, really like the colours on this one, the light blues and yellows. I'd like to visit Corsica too! I'd head up those mountains.

Thank you all for your comments. Quite a turnout for the Virtual Paintout this month. Maybe because of it being winter we can put our minds into Corsica for a spell...and Werner, viele dank!

I draw because I like the scritchy sound the pencils make, I don't know about you... :)

Love the Corsica colors in the painting!

Thanks Leslie! Aah, the skritchy sound, yes. I once was drawing away at a quartet concert and didn't realize that people were rather irritated with me. I guess I can be quite skritchy when I draw!

I quite this virtual paintout idea and seeing everyone's interpretations. Like the view you selected, Gary. It does have the effect of a nice spring morning. We can only hope that soon the weather will change.

Beautiful work, Gary.

I love the mood of this painting,
the colors, the silence,
and the interplay of light and darkness...
