Framing Away
Well, having survived two winter storms, one with a lot of snow and then there was a lot of ice. My daughter and I spent a lot of time outdoors playing in the snow for days. But the ice storm was other worldly - put our county in a state of emergency because of falling trees and power outages and the like. I hope you all had a great holiday. We did, but was in the dark for a while! Anyway, I've been in the studio framing as opposed to painting (and reading a lot), as I have a show of watercolors going up on Monday (our local Arts Council gallery here in Boone). It gives me the chance to put together a show of new works so I'm psyched. There's always something about seeing the work in frames and up on a wall in a gallery setting that is rewarding in its own right. I've got plenty of ideas for new paintings but they are somewhat on hold - having too much fun otherwise!

Hi Gary
Happy New Year to you and your family! Good luck at the show.
Shelley
We haven't had ice storms - just snow and sleet and dark days..
I'm glad that you're making the most of things by preparing for a show. It's great to see work framed up, isn't it - it always looks more important somehow. I hope it goes well for you. x
Framing is something I hope to undertake shortly myself, Gary. I have lots of ideas, no practical experience other than common sense. I hope I can do it. I have lots of paintings around here that could use a frame so I can hang them. One of these days, I tell ya'. I am so excited for your showing too! Is your wife's or Ken's paintings going to be shown as well? I hope you get photos!
I do wish I could come to see your show! That would be such a treat! I do have relatives that live in Thomasville and Greensboro, so maybe the next time I'm up there I'll get to see your paintings up close!
Thanks for the comments - and sorry I haven't been near the computer due to holiday activity and natural disaster (!). Thanks for the support for this show. I get my framing stuff from: westfallframing.com. It's very reasonably priced and they will cut everything to your needs right online and ship it to you quickly - that's frames, mats, backing and plex (I'll order on Monday and usually have it by the end of the week). All I have to do then is assemble myself. It's the cheapest way to go. Of course you all are invited - Raena let me know if you actually plan a visit to western NC! (we are about a two hour drive from Greensboro) I'll take pictures. Gary.
Best of luck on your show! I know it will be wonderful! Stay warm!

And here's to next year being great for all of us!
From what I saw on the Weather Channel last night, you may have more snow on the way! Congrats re this show! If we were in NC this would be a MUST SEE! Maybe you will make a video and post on your blog? Thanks for the framing info! Happy New Year to you and your family!
Happy New Year to you and your family! All the best in 2010.
Good luck on the show - wonderful way to start the year, I think. Happy New Year!
Hi Gary, good luck with your show. Wish I could see it. I know it will be very good. We were out of power and snowed in for a week. I was busy painting Karin Jurick. What a challenge. Look forward to seing more of your paintings. Silvia
