October

October (or Gary's Wheelbarrow)
12x16" watercolor

I felt the need to put something up. We've been celebrating my daughter's birthday, which meant getting ready to travel then spent most of last week at Edisto Island in South Carolina. Now we are getting ready for a birthday party and guests (which means some serious house and yard work). I was able to paint this last week before we left. We left Boone and it was a glorious autumn. We came back to winter - see what can happen when you leave town!

This piece was real hard to photo - I guess because it is dark with some contrasting lights. So here it is, sorta. I had too much fun, which I think is evident here, with the Mr. Clean Magic Erasers and an eraser guard. On the one hand I like that you can tell what I used, but on the other I've always felt that technique should be hidden - so I guess you can say I'm undecided. I've been trying to finish my effort for this months Virtual Paintout - I think I can post that one tomorrow.

Aaaah, I really like the autumn feeling of this one, sort of cool and damp. Again, great drawing gives your paintings such a firm foundation. The wheel barrow and the pail are spot on.

So forgive me for asking but what does the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser do? Erase the wc? I've never tried that before...

Love the one below (Rev. Gary Davis), but had to comment on this one: reminds me of my childhood in Vermont -- collecting sap in metal buckets just like this one. Also b/c the Boone/Linville area is one of my favorites ... Thx for kind words re my Belfast painting. Maybe I shouldn't have painted over it ...

And yeah, what peachtreeart said...what is the deal with the Mr. Clean eraser? Are we missing something?

Thanks for comments yall. Aah, the Mr. Clean Magic Erasers. What fun. Ann had picked up on this from the blog world and she wanted to try them. I, of course, immediately explored with them too. You buy them at the grocery store in a little box of 4 in the cleaning aisle. They are these micro-celled sponge-like thingys and you use them to lightly scrub - great for watercolor - prob good for other media too. I cut them up into little rectangles about the size of my finger and use the edges and corners. In the above - I scrubbed through one of those drafting eraser guards that leave distinct shapes that can be repainted with color. Only thing is you need to be using a pretty substantial paper b/c it can rough up the paper rather easily. Oh yeah - get the "originals" - not the ones with detergent in them (!)
